Chongqing Changshou is the dominant Chinese potassium permanganate (KMnO4, HS 284161) production base, where Chongqing Changshou Chemical operates the world's largest single-site KMnO4 capacity. The park's end-product roster also includes the Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon Works (the historical China capital of polyvinyl alcohol fibre, plus methanol and formaldehyde chains) and the BASF-Sinopec MDI joint venture (the western-China MDI gateway, complementing Wanhua's Yantai and Ningbo Daxie capacity). Two operator-distinct points. First, the KMnO4 export trade is heavily regulated as a US DEA Schedule II List I controlled chemical (cocaine-processing precursor); Chongqing Changshou as the dominant Chinese supplier carries the chain-of-custody documentation expertise that smaller suppliers lack. Second, the Yangtze barge-and-river-sea trans-shipment route to Shanghai is the export pathway, and the Yangtze cold-season low-water (December to March) constrains barge capacity, which seasonally affects Chongqing-sourced chemical export availability.
